Lower Manitou Lake Monster Muskie Fishing
The word Muskie is short-form for Muskellunge. The word Muskellunge is derived from the Ojibwe word Maasshkinoozhe. Maash means ugly and Kinoozhe means Pike. Aboriginal people called the Muskie an ugly pike. To a fanatical Muskie hunter they are the most beautiful fish in the world. Muskie are the apex predators in the lake and are not only ferocious, they reach gigantic sizes.
Lower Manitou Lake offers the best drive-to option for trophy Muskies in Ontario and maybe all of Canada. All of the well-known Muskie hunters that you see on television or fishing magazines will tell you that trout water produces the biggest Muskies around and Manitou Lake is prime trout water.

On trout water, you will find size but the numbers will be less than many of the stained water lakes in the area. Most of our guests are searching for a 50+ inch Muskie, not a couple of mid-30" Muskie. Every year we see plenty of 40-50" pictures from our guests as well, guests do catch a handful of 50"+ Muskie. The largest caught at the camp in recent years was a 55" hog. It was caught just a couple of miles south of the camp. Lower Manitou, Esox, and The Stretch are truly a Muskie Hunters dream come true. The system offers deep water, rock reefs, nice weed beds, suspended cabbage, some current areas, and various other structure, which is prime habitat for Muskie to find the food needed to grow big.

Along with trophy Muskie water on the main lake, Camp Manitou also offers two portage lakes with high numbers of Muskies for lots of action. If you or anyone in your group has never caught a Muskie, please inquire about these two special little lakes at the time of your booking. Our portage lakes are perfect for introducing people to Muskie Fishing. Generally people that are new to Muskie fishing don't understand what the big deal is and don't feel the excitement and anticipation that helps seasoned Muskie Hunters to be so patient.
